POWER OF PRAYER

The movie, “Dunkirk” was recently released in the theaters. It is a war movie that followed random individuals as Britain attempted to bring her troops home from the beaches oat Dunkirk. It seemed the entire British Army had found itself at the hands of the German Luftwaffe. They would most assuredly be obliterated.
In the movie every time they brought in a war ship to transport soldiers it would be sunk. There seemed to be no hope. What the movie failed to bring to the screen is the miracle that occurred. King George 6th out of desperation called for a National Day of Prayer.
He made a plea to the nation through a radio broadcast He gave these instructions turn back to God in repentance and plead for Divine help. Millions of people in turn across the British Isles responded flocking in to churches seeking deliverance. Two events followed this mass outpouring 1) a massive storm developed over Dunkirk essentially grounding the Luftwaffe and 2) A great calm descended on the channel. Like had rarely been seen before. Tiny boats were able to cross the channel and transport the some 335,000 soldiers home to safety.
The power of prayer is astounding. As we face impending disaster such as hurricanes, floods, war and turmoil we would be wise to recall these events. God remains on the throne. I think a key ingredient in this day of prayer was King George calling for repentance. 2 Chronicles clearly states that If God’s people will humble themselves and pray and turn from their sins (repent) then he will heal their lands.
I am reminded of the Nineveh King when hearing of God’s impending judgment call for the nation to repent. It was through that action of humility and repentance that the nations was spared. King Josiah called for repentance and his kingdom was spared. Jesus’ message was to repent.
Are you experiencing personal disaster? Does there seem to be no hope? Has the light at the end of the tunnel been extinguished? I would say to you today the answer is found in the power of prayer. Humble yourself before God in prayer. Through repentance seek Divine guidance. You’ll be amazed at the miraculous hand of God providing miraculous deliverance to your situation.
