When we call on Christ believing that He is Lord and repent, confessing our sin we are saved. Repentance is no longer walking our own path but walking His path. Matthew 7 The highway to hell[a] is broad, and its gate is wide for the many who choose that way. 14 But the gateway to life is very narrow and the road is difficult, and only a few ever find it.
I struggled with a post on twitter today. Tweets and Facebook posts are not definitive of the authors true message. It is like taking a verse of scripture out of context. If we focus on the verse “Jesus wept,” making it our mantra believing all need to weep, this would be heretical. You must incorporate the entire message to find the true meaning and application for our lives.
How does one follow the narrow road? For one we need to be humble seeking assistance from those currently traveling the road. I quote, “that Jesus said, ’Go and preach to all people,” He also commanded us to go and make disciples. There is work to be done after the preaching.
When individuals are added to the family of God, they need to learn the ways of God through discipleship. Jesus called men to follow him. He inducted them into a three year on the job training course preparing them to take the Gospel to all nations. The church today is charged to make disciples of new believers. This begins with adding them to the family. At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another. 4 But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, 5 he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, 6 whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, 7 so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life. 8 This is a trustworthy saying. And I want you to stress these things, so that those who have trusted in God may be careful to devote themselves to doing what is good. These things are excellent and profitable for everyone. Titus 3:3-8
Conversion and transformation begins with salvation however it is continued through discipleship. We speak of progressive sanctification and we cannot expect someone to change overnight. Now I am aware some people’s transformation is immediate like going through the car wash. Some take time, the Holy Spirit works in the heart of believers helping them walk the narrow road. Believers need to come alongside the new believer as they would their own brother and sister assisting them in this new walk.
Make no qualms about it a new believers life is transformed at one point or another after coming to Christ. Old things are passed away behold all things have become new. When we confess our sin, Jesus is faith and just to forgive our sins. He desires that we be holy as God is holy. This is accomplished through his blood that cleanses us from all unrighteousness and walking the narrow path.
A new life in Jesus is exciting, when you consider that he has delivered you from, all your sins are gone. You can breathe freely knowing he has written your name in the “Lamb’s Book of Life” assuring you eternal life. Scripture invites us to cast our burdens on Jesus, no longer do you need to carry the weight of the world on your shoulders. He has got it!
In Jesus we find security and peace. As we place our trust in him our faith will grow bringing us perfect peace. I have never felt so at peace as in the arms of Jesus. I have learned that he is aware of my challenges in life before I know them and he has the answer if I simply trust. It is not a place that one comes to easily. It takes time. As we walk with the Lord and other believers we will reach this place on the journey.
DO YOU DESIRE TO TRANSFORM YOUR LIFE FOR JESUS?
Pray this, “ Dear Jesus I believe you are the son of God, I confess I am a sinner and desire my life to be changed. Please forgive my sin as I make you Lord of my life. I thank you for saving me. Amen”
It really is that easy to start. The next step is to plug into a family of believers who can help nurture you in your new walk. Message me charleslefort@evangelistcharleslefort.com or on Facebook. I will help you find your way. BE BLESSED!
