When motivational speakers teach about your goals and dreams they are adamant about visualization. You are more likely to reach a goal or attain a dream if you visualize it. Can you see it? When God instructed Moses to take his people into the promised land he said, “I will personally go with you.” Moses replied, “If you are going with us then show me your glory.” As Moses found favor with God, He agree to reveal himself to Moses.
Moses had many interactions with God up to this point. God had spoken to him in the burning bush, and through the pillar of smoke. Moses desired to see God to be encouraged that God was actually with the him and the people. God placed Moses in a cleft of a rock permitting Moses to view his back. God explained man would perish if he experienced God’s full glory.
Moses was focused on God. He had a desire for more and to gain more he wanted to experience God, to visualize him. When a believer comes to Christ placing their belief in him and calling on his name there is a change that occurs. The believer feels a closeness with God like they have never experienced. We call it the “Joy of our Salvation.” As that joy develops a desire for more, more of God in our lives. We are attracted to God like a gnat o the light. God becomes our focus.
The people of Israel focused on God when he delivered them from their bondage, however, when left to themselves they would often lose focus. While Moses was on the mountain top, they crafted a craven image to worship to represent God as other peoples had similar idols. They lost their focus. God keep them separate as he brought them into the promised land so that they would not be attracted to the idolatrous behavior of the people.
“Keep your eyes on Jesus, who both began and finished this race we're in. Study how he did it. Because he never lost sight of where he was headed - that exhilarating finish in and with God - he could put up with anything along the way: cross, shame, whatever. And now he's there, in the place of honor, right alongside God.” Hebrews 12:2 Jesus provided the perfect example for believers to follow, the perfect example how to live a life that brings him glory.
Jesus keep his eyes on the Father and the purpose in which he came to earth. Everything hid did was in preparation for the cross. By keeping his eyes fixated on the Father he was not distracted by the evil and wickedness in this world. He was able to accomplish his purpose that evil and wickedness would be vanquished, and the Father would claim the victory over sin.
Do you desire to see God to experience Jesus Christ? Jesus said, “Whoever has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me. The one who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and reveal Myself to him."
When we talk with a person over the phone or through chat and texting their message is not as clear as if we were sitting face to face. Facial expressions and body language lend much meaning to a conversation. How many times has your message been miscommunicated? When God is speaking to us and we feel his presence is near the message seems to be enriching and clear.
God is near to the broken. When we humble ourselves, becoming broken, allowing His, Holy Spirit to bring us comfort this prepares us to experience the fullness of God and hear his voice. This requires focus. Distractions must wane with all that remains being our desire for more of God. Therefore, we humbly bow in his presence eyes closed and heart abandoned. We are too easily distracted if we fail to shut ourselves off with God in prayer. All the great evangelist would shut themselves off in their prayer closets to be alone with God with no distractions.
If you desire to seek God’s face, get alone with him. Turn off every distraction so that your focus is on one thing and one thing only GOD!
